Photos of inside carnage. First two photos were our principal bathroom, then a doorway that was a walk, followed by the kitchen that will now be a library, and the utility room that will become an extended bootroom.
Also below... we worked on garden design with a landscaper and this is the plan. Just need costings to see if we can afford it!
It’s probably worth mentioning that the house is now almost uninhabitable so we are moving out for August and September. You think you can live through it but it’s so hard as your footprint gets smaller and smaller.

Walls are going up! Notice scaffolding is back up as rendering failed (they think it was a bad batch - never happened before) and has to be redone delaying the project three weeks. This company is 8th generation and agreed right away to redo all the rendering at their cost. Always best to choose a company with a good reputation.Â

New energy-efficient, double-glazed windows are being installed (26!), and the extension foundation and patio have been poured. The transition from building site to home is steadily advancing.Â

Repointing and rendering complete; now on to the extension. Lots of demolition and dust!

From the pictures below it looks like nothing has happened, but we are in the process of repointing and rendering the house - a long laborious process that involves removing existing mortar (a lot of dust!). I added some lime to lighten the mortar and make it less porous. Biggest cost so far was the scaffolding! Extension will start second week in April.

Phase 1 has kicked off: Scaffolding is up for repointing and rendering, and the garden is a clean slate and ready for landscaping after the extension has been built. Phase 2 will begin in April.
